Michael Burns

Michael Burns is CEO of Invictus Games – Toronto 2017. The Games, founded by HRH Prince Harry, are the largest international competition featuring ill and injured soldiers from more than seventeen nations.

Burns took a leave of absence from his role as Vice-President, Corporate Development of AudienceView to head up the 2017 Invictus Games. Prior to that he was President of Thornmark Asset Management and President of Clearsight Wealth Management Inc. Burns is co-founder of the True Patriot Love Foundation, which supports Canada’s military, veterans and their families by funding programmes for mental health, physical rehabilitation, career transition and family services.

In June 2016, Canada’s Governor General, on behalf of the Queen, awarded Burns the Meritorious Service Cross for this work with military families. In 2012, he was awarded the Canadian Forces Medallion for Distinguished Service, the military’s highest honour for a civilian. That year, he was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, honouring significant contributions and achievements by Canadians. In 2010, he was named one of Canada’s Top 40 Under 40.

Burns is on the Board of the Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research. He is Chair of the Michael Garron Hospital Foundation Board (formerly the Toronto East General Hospital Board Foundation). He successfully led the team that the secured the Garrons’ $50 million donation, the largest gift ever made to a Canadian community-teaching hospital, matching the largest gift ever to any hospital in Canada. He is also on the Board of two world-class venues: Roy Thomson Hall and Massey Hall.

Queen Anne Silver

The Queen Anne Silver was originally given to the Mohawks by Queen Anne in 1711 and housed in the Mohawk Chapel at Fort Hunter in modern New York State. The Silver was comprised of eight items of communion plate. The Mohawks were loyal allies of King George III in the American Revolution and, after the revolution, resettled in Ontario at the Bay of Quinte (Tyendinaga) and on the Grand River. The Silver was divided between the two territories with four pieces going to the Grand River and three going to Tyendinaga. One piece had been lost in the move to Canada. The three at Tyendinaga are a chalice, a flagon and a footed paten. A second chalice was given to the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte by Queen Elizabeth II in 1984. They are housed at Her Majesty’s Chapel Royal of the Mohawks (Christ Church). In 2004 the chapel was elevated by the Queen from a royal chapel to the higher status of a chapel royal, of which there are only six.
