Nov 29 @ 9:00 am – Nov 30 @ 6:00 pm

University of Calgary, The School of Public Policy presents

Shoulder to Shoulder: Forging a New Canada-UK Relationship

The order established following the Second World War is being tested by current geo-political events.  The role of NATO is in question.  Two massive economic blocs, NAFTA and the EU are under real and critical threat. In these anxious times of shifting alliances and weakening ties, it is tough for countries to find reliable friends.

That is not the case with Canada and the UK.  Canada and the UK share long and profound cultural, military, legal, political and regulatory histories.  Is now the time to call on those ties to proactively default on our relationship with an eye to free trade, bilateral security agreements and a lessening of the regulatory burdens that inhibit freer exchanges of people, products and ideas?

The School of Public Policy, in partnership with the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary, Canada, invites you attend a conference that will explore these options and flesh out practical policy routes to strengthening the Canada-UK relationship. Co-hosted with the support of Goodenough College and the British Consulate-General in Calgary, the event will feature expert panels, and encourage focused, frank and real-world debate on what is possible, and how.

Topics include:

  • The Future of Trade and Investment
  • The Future of Financial Markets
  • The Future of Security Cooperation
